Optional Setup for Your Exchange Server Quick Setup Guide for Exchange Server 2003
12 Proprietary: Not for use or disclosure outside MX Logic without written permission. July 2009
Message Archiving supports TLS, providing you with an option to enhance the security of
your outbound journaled email messages. Using TLS, however, is not required.
If you set up your Exchange Server and Message Archiving to use TLS encryption,
Message Archiving uses a TLS certificate to authenticate the Exchange Server. Message
Archiving then automatically accepts the encrypted messages as they are transported from
the Exchange Server, decrypts the messages, and then stores them in your archive using
another 256-bit encryption method.
You can find detailed information about setting up TLS for Exchange Server on the
Microsoft Web site (www.microsoft.com).
How to Configure the Exchange Server to
Use TLS
To set up TLS encryption:
1 Create and manage key certificates. To do so, follow these steps:
A Install an X.509 server certificate on the server. For more information about
X.509 certificates, click the following article number to view the article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
319574 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319574/) How to use certificates with
virtual servers in Exchange 2000 Server.
B Start Exchange System Manager.
C Expand the Exchange Server, click Protocols, click IMAP4, right-click the
Default IMAP4 Virtual Server, and then click Properties.
